Apathetic Crystalline Healer

Maeval Qestir

Age: 31
Gender: Female, She/Her
Orientation: Ace
Race: Xaela Au Ra
Job: Astrologian/White Mage
Alignment: Neutral Good
Likes: Acceptable salaries, painting, dry sarcasm.
Dislikes: Dogs, denial of medical care, ignorance, tea.
Frequented Location: Limsa Lominsa

The apathetic healer for her adventuring party with bit of a mean streak. She's the highest paid member and refuses to value her work for any less, even if she's already wealthy.

Despite being born and raised in the Qestir Clan, she left on poor terms shortly after adulthood and eventually found her way to Limsa Lominsa. She has also taken up the spoken word, even if most of her comments are dry, cutting, or just plain rude. In Limsa, she befriended Lei'a, a Miqote herbalist who introduced her to her current adventuring coworkers, Huxing and Jasparl.

While she has a moon motif, she's quietly unsure about the origin of the crystalline elements that seem to afflict her horns and scales. The more that she channels heavy duty magic, the more it seems to consume her.

Connections

  1. Charitable Healer: She frequents charitable organizations, one of the few places that she doesn't charge for her time or medical expertise. One might know her from a similar line of work or from aid that she rendered.

  2. Crystalline Curiosity: No matter how she tries to cover up the changes to her scales with fine clothes and ornamentation, the unnatural blue, crystalline quality can be spotted by a keen eye.

  3. Obvious Wealth: Her outfit, jewelry, and gear are visible symbols of her personal wealth. She's known to spend freely for that which is worth her time and effort.
  1. Maeval was hired to join Jasparl's team due to the group's desperate need for a healer as job assignments continued to pile up. She wasn't particularly impressed with his inability to track sarcasm, especially since that was her primary method of communicating with him. And insulting him.

  2. Despite often being at odds (a combination of her judging him and him ignoring her), they work smoothly as a team. She's one of the few people that forces him to only accept a reasonable number of tasks at a time. Especially if she's getting paid for her time.
  1. She met Kirin in Limsa Lominsa, where the Viera was bleeding out in a back alley after he had a job go wrong. Horribly wrong. Through a mix of her strong convictions and complete lack of pity for him, they ended up becoming friends once he was on the mend.

  2. It was only later that she found out that Jasparl was the person working the opposite side of the job that hurt Kirin in the first place.

  3. She has yet to tell Kirin.

Timeline

Born into Qestiri

Maeval grew up as part of the Qestir tribe within the Azim Steppes.

Over the years, she learned the art of manipulating aether to heal, largely in part due to her family's fear of a loved one's constant bouts of illness. During her teenage years, she also frequented the Qestiri run markets, sharpening her commerce skills and learning of medicinal treatments that come from beyond the Steppes.

Insomniac Workaholic Mercenary

Jasparl Aira

Age: 32
Gender: Male, He/Him
Orientation: Gay
Race: Raen Au Ra
Job: Machinist
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Likes: Cats, sparring with Huxing, fixing things, traveling.
Dislikes: Wasting money, white lies, people trying to control/manipulate him.
Frequented Location: Wherever his work takes him.

Jasparl tends to be the brute, efficient firepower for the job. And for most people? That's all that he needs to be. He's a workaholic, often stacking multiple tasks at once and refuses breaks. It's less about the money and more about accomplishment in a way.

It's often hidden behind the menial tasks that he does, but he's obsessed with power. He feels if he gathers enough, then he truly can just live life peacefully without others shoving their way in, Garlean or no. He hasn't explicitly told his siblings, but they can tell something's up. He continues to take on more and more dangerous and challenging tasks to reach this impossible goal.

When they were young, he and his sister Jinaera (they ended up disagreeing about splitting the last name) escaped Garlean rule in their home country. They worked odd jobs all of the way to Gridania, where they both independently met Huxing. Jinaera adopted him as a new sibling and Jasparl got the shock of coworker turned family. He and Huxing do most of the adventuring, although they disagree on whether it's being an Adventurer or Mercenary.

Connections

  1. Stoic Mercenary: Jasparl has worked many mercenary jobs of all types. He's made a substantial number of enemies and few close friends. If your character deals in blood and coin, they might know of each other.

  2. Reluctant Adventurer: Jasparl accompanies Huxing frequently, often combining work on the side with whatever Huxing is dragging him around to complete. He adopts more of a "not my job, not my problem" for most of this, letting him actually relax for once.

  3. Friend to Cats:
  1. His biological older sister. The two of them escaped from their homeland when the Garlean influence became far too dangerous. They also disagree on how to Eorzean-ize their last name, resulting in two very different approaches.

  2. While Jasparl became a mercenary, Jinaera became a successful adventurer, but ended up retiring early. During her travels, she met Huxing and the two of them formed a close bond, with her eventually adopting him as her "second, better brother."

  3. At that time, Jasparl was coworkers with Huxing and neither knew about the other's connection with Jinaera nor their new familial status.
  1. Despite the sudden, surprise appearance of a new adopted sibling of a completely different Au ra subspecies, Jasparl and Huxing took up their new fraternal connection with ease. Neither of them have ever had a brother before, so they sort of just ended up beating the shit out of each other and cooking mediocre food on the road.

  2. Even with their volatile natures in different directions, they do a good job at keeping each other in check, with Jasparl staying laser focused on a task and Huxing bringing more passion (and importantly empathy) to situations.
  1. Maeval is the healer and additional member to their team. He respects her professionalism and efficacy on the job, although her constant roundabout and backhanded way of speaking is more exhausting than insulting in his opinion.

  2. He thinks that she gets paid an absurd amount of money, although after she's helped out financially several times, he doesn't have much of a leg to stand on. He's certain that her bleeding heart will get her killed someday, no matter how well she covers it with a cold exterior. But that's not his problem.
  1. ...who?

  2. Jasparl drastically altered Kirin's life when he took a job that involved killing Kirin's employer (and the rest of the employer's guard). It was through pure, dumb luck that Kirin survived. Jasparl just barely has recollection of who they are. It was just another job.

Floral Romantic Knight

Halima Allaire

Age: 28
Gender: Female, She/Her
Orientation: Straight
Race: Ishgardian Elezen
Job: Dragoon/Paladin
Alignment: Neutral Good
Likes: Cold days, socializing during her downtime, working a structured schedule.
Dislikes: The desert, her brother's nagging, overly sweet food, poor gear care.
Location: Gridania, South Shroud.

Halima is from an incredibly low ranked Noble house in Ishgard. She readily trained as a knight to join in the war efforts and worked diligently, but over time she felt her morale flag as she wondered if this really was the way to save people.

When her more aristocratic friend, Florentel, found his family convicted of heretical work and sought to redeem only his own name, she joined him. They both left Ishgard, hoping to make a difference.

She and Florentel found themselves in Ul'dah and promptly suffered heatstroke trying to find work there. Eventually, Florentel befriended a local named Suen and the trio worked more and more jobs together. There were several sources of disagreements due to vastly different life experiences.

Connections

  1. Knight of Ishgard: From her garbs to how she carries herself, it's obvious that she was once a knight of Ishgard. She finished her service term, but left Ishgard with Florentel before being able to begin her next term. Unlike Florentel, she remains in good standing, despite being from a lower noble house.

  2. Overheated Adventurer: Regularly adventured in Ul'dah and its surrounding area, where she might know some familiar faces. Especially with how she stood out due to her frequent heat exhaustion and lack of local knowledge.

  3. Gridanian Group: She now adventures in Gridania with Florentel, Suen, and Elenvar, where they take on odd jobs or more dangerous work to help others.
  1. Her older brother. While he truly does care for his family's happiness and health, he can't ignore the political climate in Ishgard, nor his house's precarious position near the bottom of the nobility ladder. His instructions and attempts to protect the family often clash with Halima's beliefs, although she does quietly hold him in high regard.
  1. Halima's childhood friend and fellow Ishgardian noble. They met at a young age at some high end social or another and have been inseparable since. He came from a much more prestigious house, so her family encouraged their interactions and blossoming friendship.

  2. Even after Halima was deployed as a knight, they remained close, although Florentel grew uneasy with the literal distance between them. This was further exacerbated by her easy way of befriending her fellow knights and peers. When she returned, heartbroken, after a vicious loss on the battlefield, Florentel was there for her.

  3. Years later, in their early twenties, Florentel's family was found guilty of heresy against Ishgard and its church. While Florentel alone was saved from the condemnation, he didn't mourn the familial loss. When he set out to become an adventurer and prove himself, Halima joined along with the intent to truly do good.
  1. Her late fiance, a fellow knight of Ishgard. She doesn't willingly bring him up often. Several years passed between her losing him on the battlefield and her eventual departure from Ishgard with Florentel.
  1. She and Florentel met Suen in the outskirts of Ul'dah, where they were suffering from their own ignorance about Basic Heat Safety. Especially in desert conditions. Suen took mercy on them and ended up sticking around long after initially making sure they didn't get friend in the sun.

  2. He's always been aware of the poverty and issues that plagued Ul'dah and it was his point of view that helped bring the two elezen's out of their Ishgardian isolationist point of view. Eventually, he travels with them to Gridania, a place that he has always wanted to see, despite his mother's warnings of the treatment of Keepers of the Moon Mi'qote.
  1. A fellow knight of Ishgard. While naturally charismatic, there was always the undercurrent of something self-serving beneath his demeanor. Despite that, they forged friendship on the battlefield and it was there that Halima learned about his secret heretical beliefs. They've saved each others' lives countless times, so she never told a soul.

  2. As far as she's concerned, she left Ishgard with his secret intact, although she worries where such draconic dealings will take him.

Lackadaisical Double-Crossing Spy

Ozymandias
Blanc

Age: 107
Gender: Male, He/Him
Orientation: Pansexual
Race: Veena Viera
Job: Dark Knight/Monk
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Likes: His wife, expensive clothes, a job well done, physical labor.
Dislikes: Overly stern coworkers, Kirin calling him old, people underestimating him.
Frequented Location: Gyr Abania, war fronts

A self confident mercenary, Ozymandias has the experience to back his bravado and (sometimes unnecessary) showmanship. He's worked in a lot of professions over the years, slowly wandering into the less and less legal side of things. Although, now he and his wife Queen have found the perfect occupation for them in terms of bang for buck.
War Profiteering.

Before his work with blood and coin, Ozy plied his trade in physical labor, including mining, forestry, and anything else that needed a good lift.

After a particularly bad brigand raid on the foresting camp that he was currently working, Ozy found out that he had a knack for hurting people. It must help that he was over a foot taller than the average Viera and built like a tank.

He and his wife, Queen, both work on the frontlines of Garlean conflicts, with Ozy working with Garlean forces and Queen working with the opposition. They've worked for years to find themselves in the perfect "middle management" position. They help and sabotage in equal measure, doing just enough to be held in high esteem, but also undermining enough to keep the conflict going. And keep their pay coming.

Connections

Roleplay Hooks

Gridanian Labor: Used to work in one of the major (illegal) timber camps in Gridania before things went south. He was a frequent site in those areas around 15-20 years ago before disappearing.
A Familiar Face: He wears the worst "disguises" whenever out and about doing civilian work, normally just electing to throw on an oversized sweater over his work gear. He's not hard to spot from prior jobs or just his line of mercenary work in general.
War Profiteer: Very rarely, he's been spotted on the frontlines of major conflicts, including those with the Garlean Empire. He was probably just a sword for hire, although he's been on a few too many to be a coincidence.

-- Guild

Not a person, per se, but the group that Ozy and Queen belong to. It's an organization of largely independent individuals who find specific jobs on their own. The guild provides information and connection to specialists, rather than handling the contract work itself. They come in handy when urgent medical attention is needed (no matter the Eorzean country) or one decides to actually do some digging into information.

Queen

His wife, who he's head over heels for. They first met when working for the same Guild and it was several missions later than he professed interest in her, only to be immediately shot down. She doesn't mix business and personal. He took it with grace and kept on with work as usual, typical banter and all.Months later, after a particularly vicious mission, she suddenly flips on her position, deciding fuck it, we do dangerous enough work, anyway. What's the worst that could happen?

Kirin

Some sad orphaned urchin of Limsa Lominsa (like there weren't enough of those already) that Ozy got a soft spot for against his will. He met Kirin when returning to the port city during an extended break and found the kid scrabbling their way through the same line of work. It was as if they kept running into each other no matter what tasks they ended up picking up, mundane or otherwise.Eventually, Ozy took on more of a mentorship role with Kirin, showing them the more professional side of the business and how to handle yourself without getting killed or making too stupid of a mistake. While Ozy quietly sees Kirin as a protege or even a younger family member, his wife Queen is not too fond of the stray that he's picked up.

Jasparl

Ozy has rarely worked with this Au ra and he'd rather keep it that way. He feels unnerved around him, even if he doesn't admit it. There's some gut instinct that things can go bad fast and despite his own constant self assuredness, he doesn't think he can win if it comes down to it.

Timeline

Departure from the Homeland

Ozy left his homeland in his twenties, thoroughly unhappy with the isolation that it enforced. He bounced around different countries, trying his hand at a variety of professions. His incredible height and build provided a lot of opportunities with physical labor. His worsening gambling addiction led to him taking seedier jobs as he kept on the move and barely out of debt.
